The 2025 Shanghai Science and Technology Festival will officially kick off on May 17, launching a "City Technology Carnival" that invites everyone to participate. According to Shanghai Securities Journal, this year's festival will showcase more AI-driven innovative scenarios. Among them, humanoid Bots will make their debut on the "AI Science Red Carpet," allowing citizens to experience that "the future is here".

This year's Science and Technology Festival is themed "Technology Makes Life Better" and includes six major topics: opening ceremony, conferences, open activities, and competitions. The festival lasts for two weeks and covers 16 districts in Shanghai, with nearly 2000 events expected to be held.

Compared to previous sessions, this year's Science and Technology Festival focuses on inheriting the spirit of scientists and cultivating scientific thinking, with a greater emphasis on cutting-edge technology experiences, showcasing the achievements of Shanghai's international science and technology innovation center construction.

As an important part of the launch ceremony, this year's scientist red carpet will utilize artificial intelligence technology to create the "AI Science Red Carpet."

The "AI Science Red Carpet" introduces XR spatial expansion technology for the first time, creating an infinitely extendable visual space by generating virtual backgrounds that seamlessly blend with real scenes in real time. The installation integrates an AI motion capture system that can capture guest movements in real time, overlaying AI dynamic effects to achieve high-precision interaction between people and the virtual environment. Additionally, it utilizes a combination of real-time rendering, spatial sound effects, and other technologies to create an immersive environment with a sense of futuristic technology. Compared to last year's "Metaverse Red Carpet," this year's "AI Science Red Carpet" has achieved a technological leap in interactivity, real-time performance, and immersive experiences.

This year's "AI Science Red Carpet" gathers a host of big names, featuring 9 major sections and 12 groups of guests, covering fields such as basic research, strategic technology, and technology services. In addition to scientists and technology pioneers, this year's red carpet will be open to the public for the first time. Furthermore, a special guest will make an appearance at this year's "AI Science Red Carpet"—a humanoid Bots. It will walk the red carpet alongside the R&D team, marking the first-ever "Human-Machine Co-walk" at the technology festival, showcasing Shanghai's hardcore strength in the field of intelligent technology. Besides the Bots walking the red carpet, this technology festival will also create an immersive technology conference intelligent body, bringing a new conference experience to participants, from the etiquette service of humanoid Bots to the AI simultaneous interpretation system, from the real-time digitization system of conference texts to virtual reality presentation assist glasses.

During this year's Science and Technology Festival, AI is not only a "visible" technological display but also serves as a link that promotes public participation and connects scientific research with daily life. During the festival, 56 key laboratories and large scientific facilities will be open to the public, and 48 science popularization venues will offer special discounts. Activities such as youth science education, interactive experience exhibitions, and AI scenario-based demonstrations will run throughout the festival, allowing technological breakthroughs to truly enter the lives of citizens.

According to reports, in the past five years, scientists in Shanghai have accounted for 29.2% of the total number of publications in the three top academic journals: "Science," "Nature," and "Cell," making a batch of significant research achievements a shining "business card" for Shanghai's technology. This year's Science and Technology Festival will also comprehensively showcase the new progress and achievements Shanghai has made in cutting-edge technology and future industries in recent years.

As an important part of the Science and Technology Festival, the 2025 Shanghai Science Communication Conference will also be held during the festival, featuring a main conference and four sub-forums. The conference will also announce the "Navigational Plan" for Science Communication in Shanghai 2025, the launch ceremony of the National Science Popularization Achievement Transformation Service Platform, the launch ceremony of the Science Communication Creation Center, as well as the Shanghai Science Popularization Competition and the Science Popularization Talent Cultivation Initiative.

Shanghai's popular science industrialization has transitioned from the "exploration phase" to the "growth phase." Xie Jihua, chairman of the Shanghai Technology Exchange, stated that leveraging the platforms of previous Science and Technology Festivals, the exchange has demonstrated a method of activating popular science resources through trading mechanisms, such as the "Shanghai Popular Science" special board, which has facilitated 13 transactions totaling 590,000 yuan. In the future, it will rely on policy dividends and market mechanisms to further open up the conversion channels of "scientific resources - popular science products - social value," providing a replicable "Shanghai model" for the whole country.

"AI is not only a technological tool but also a strategic engine for reshaping the innovation ecosystem." Xie Jihua stated that Shanghai is using platforms like "Model Speed Space" as a fulcrum to promote the deep integration of AI with the real economy, urban governance, and scientific research, accelerating the leap from "catching up to leading." In the future, it is necessary to further strengthen investment in basic research, improve data and computing power infrastructure, explore ethical and safety governance frameworks, and make AI the core competitiveness of Shanghai as it moves towards becoming a global innovation center.
