Google pays $1.375 billion to settle privacy lawsuit in Texas
According to Deep Tide TechFlow news on May 10, as reported by cnBeta, Google has agreed to pay $1.375 billion to Texas to settle years of litigation over its privacy policies. The settlement addresses multiple privacy allegations, including location tracking and search history. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton called it a "significant victory for the privacy of the people of Texas."
As part of the settlement, Google must also update its privacy disclosure terms. A Google spokesperson stated that this addresses a series of old complaints concerning product policies that the company has long since changed.
The settlement amount exceeds the $391.5 million settlement agreement that Google reached with 40 states regarding location tracking practices in 2022, and it is another huge privacy settlement obtained by the state following Meta's $1.4 billion settlement for facial recognition claims paid to Texas last year.
