HOT MOMENTS: Donald Trump is making critical statements about FED Chairman Jerome Powell, Customs Duties, and Iran!
U.S. President Donald Trump made striking statements about both foreign trade and monetary policy during a press conference held at the White House. In his remarks, Trump reiterated his criticisms of Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell, stating that interest rates need to be lowered.
Trump, claiming that the problem lies with Powell, stated "It would be great if FED Chairman Powell lowers interest rates," once again expressing his dissatisfaction with the current monetary policy.
In the trade agenda, the planned agreement with India has come to the forefront. Trump expressed hope that trade barriers with India would be completely eliminated and that the two countries are very close to a trade agreement. He also announced that official letters regarding customs duties to be applied to some countries will be sent next week. "Some countries will be disappointed in this regard because they will have to pay customs duties," he said.
The issue of Iran also came up at the meeting. Trump stated that he believes Iran will not restart its nuclear program in the near future and hopes that the country’s nuclear activities will be monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) or other reputable institutions. Trump pointed out that Iran has invested over 1 trillion dollars in nuclear energy, claiming that this system has not been properly integrated and that dangerous materials are still present in the field. Saying "Iran wants a meeting," Trump left the door open for diplomacy.
